by Craig Green
A birthday wish is like a rose
that grows with boundless wild
As old friends merge together
on journey's distant mile
The dawn's red sky cannot compare
to friendship's warming glow
When early "whys" become "of course"
and kindred spirits grow
A child within us sparkles brightly
with family's gentle hand
But wonder for the world around
secures a bold, "I can!"
Setting sun ends not this day
with old, persistent whys
So moon resumes its nightly path
across a starlit sky
A wish for one day filled with love
can lead to many more
As one small step can ease the next:
a life of open doors
