Arkansas River Basin – Project Sample

  • FOUNTAINHEAD WATER RIGHTS TRANSFERS – Aetna Insurance Company had several parcels of land along Fountain Creek south of Colorado Springs in the 1980’s, which required extensive engineering analyses of historical use and other issues for transfer to new points of diversions. It was necessary to integrate alluvial wells and surface diversions into a new plan to allow the water rights to be diverted legally at new points of diversion.
  • COLORADO SPRINGS PROTEST – On behalf of Aetna, to protect its water interests in the Fountain Creek basin, a comprehensive review of Colorado Springs’ proposed augmentation plan was completed. Negotiations with the City’s engineers resulted in a settlement out of court with terms and conditions adequate to protect Aetna’s water rights.
  • MULTIPLE SMALL AUGMENTATION PLANS – Several augmentation plans for individual land owners in the Arkansas River basin have been completed. These included the use of transmountain water from the Twin Lakes Reservoir and Canal Company. Each of these plans required determination of water demands and depletions and the preparation of augmentation plans to prevent injury to other water rights in the basin.
  • GRANDOTE GOLF COURSE – Appraisal of water rights and testimony in litigation over water rights value. This project included a review of a previous transfer decree, analysis of comparable sales and analysis of yields of a nearby water reservoir system in which the client own shares.
  • CITY OF CRIPPLE CREEK – Ongoing water supply work for several years, including field measurements of reservoir capacity, engineering work for the transfer of two sets of water rights from irrigation to municipal use. Analysis of water yields from various new sources being considered by the City.
  • HILL RANCH WATER RIGHTS – Negotiations and field work associated with the sale of water rights from a ranch near Salida, Colorado to a water district in West Pueblo. In addition, ongoing annual appraisals of these water rights were completed and updated each year prior to the sale of this water.
  • WESTERN WATER RIGHTS MANAGEMENT FUND – Analysis and appraisal of water rights prior to purchase by an investment group. Water rights analyzed were on the Arkansas River mainstem and several tributaries.
